Some background about the Peace Corps:



Simulation Premise: You have been accepted into the Peace Corps for two years of service. You are to use your time to serve with your best talents, to represent our country, while making a global contribution--living and working and offering your help in a community overseas and becoming a member of that community.

Selection (First come first serve with your best rationale!):
  • Africa: Ethiopia, Rwanda, South Africa, Uganda, Sudan, Angola, Somalia, Nigeria, Gambia, Tanzania
  • South Asia: India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Afghanistan
  • Southeast Asia: Indonesia,Cambodia, Vietnam
  • Latin America: Dominican Republic, Haiti
  • Middle East: Iraq, Iran, Israel, Europe: Albania, Turkmenistan, Armenia, Czech Rep., Bosnia

Critical themes (Choose 3 of the following)
  • UN/ INTERNATIONAL PEACEKEEPING
  • GLOBAL FINANCE
  • POLITICAL SYSTEMS/POLITICAL RIGHTS
  • RELIGIONS/BELIEFS/PRACTICES/ETHNIC RELIGIOUS TENSIONS
  • NUCLEAR POWER/TREATIES
  • TERRORISM
  • GLOBAL WARMING/ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES
  • SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY/HEALTH,PANDEMICS
  • WOMEN' RIGHTS/CHILDREN'S ISSUES(ONE CHILD POLICY,CHILD LABOR ETC.)

Process:
  • Historical background of host country (geography, culture, religion,government,economic status
  • Three themes per above addressed

Student Products:
  • History and background of your country create an Animoto tell the story w/music. Your movie must identify the background for your three critical issue themes. Your music video should have at least one of each of these:

a relevant quote
a statistic
a newspaper headline
  • Multimedia Museum: political cartoons, news video, news clips, editorials (Critically annotation and citation) Ongoing:
  • Scrapbook for your Peace Corps worker using Mixbook. Your book should address your three themes.
